“Hybrid Futures for European Cinemas” is a project run by 15 film theatres around the Netherlands, working collectively with a common technical system (The Container) that includes multiple online tools to engage audiences to live and interactive hybrid film events.
After being tested by four film festivals in the Netherlands, this project now aims to test the system’s functionalities in cinemas.
The goal is to provide live, interactive screenings in several cinemas in the Netherlands, in order to improve audience reach and engagement.
This project also provides a common basis for closer cooperation between cinemas and film festivals by giving cinemas the possibility to offer part of the programming of partner festivals to their local audience.
Ultimately, this approach to hybrid film events offers cinemas a new way to position themselves in the digital space, with their own visual identity.
